Highbury

Tucked away behind Kelburn, Highbury is one of Wellington’s best-kept secrets, traditionally favoured by academics because of its proximity to Victoria University and value for money.  It has terrific views: panoramic harbour or south over the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, and the suburb benefits from the Wildlife Sanctuary’s rejuvenated native bush and burgeoning native birdlife.  Highbury has a real mixture of housing – from simple starter homes to the grand, early 20th century houses of Grey Young (one of Wellington’s early architectural giants).  Locals head to Kelburn village for their regular shopping.
